Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting has continued the explosive form that saw him take out the Los Cabos Open in Mexico last month.
In Round one of the US Open of Surfing, the 20-year-old produced a solid heat victory, scoring 15.33.
His closest rival, American Michael Dunphrey, scored 12.17.
