The Macleay Valley Mustangs will appeal Group Three’s decision to suspend player, Nigel Hookey at a hearing in Coffs Harbour on Saturday.
Hookey has been banned from Country Rugby League for five years after allegedly threatening a referee at a semi final match two weeks ago.
The Mustangs say Hookey has been wrongly accused, and that a person outside the club made the threats.
They say the incident has been dealt with unfairly and that there are witnesses who can testify.
The matter will now be reviewed by an independent board.
