1,000 PEOPLE WALK TO FIND A CURE FOR DIABETES

Type one diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children, and today more than a thousand people did their bit to help find a cure.

There was a sea of colour and a swarm of bumblebees along Newcastle’s foreshore for a 5-kilometre charity walk.

Organised by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, it was one of 39 being held across Australia.

“The hunter valley has a huge amount of children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and we’re here to support them today and we’re here essentially to raise money for research.”

The event raised around $16,000.
