LIGHTNING STRIKE SPARKS BOAT FIRE

A small sailing boat was destroyed when it was struck by lightning during last night’s storm at Lake Macquarie.

The boat was moored about 50-metres offshore at Yarrawonga Park near Bonnells Bay when it was struck, sparking a fire.

The Rural Fire Service arrived at around 8:30pm to find the mast and sails well alight.

The owner of the boat says the incident was extremely unlucky and he won’t be rushing to buy a new one.
