NEWCASTLE’S SAM BATES PREPARES TO REPRESENT AUSTRALIA

Newcastle cricketer Sam Bates has been selected for her first international tour.
The Canberra-based 22 year old will head to Dubai later this month with the Shooting Stars, the Australian-A women’s team, to face the England Academy.
“I have no idea what to expect, it’s great and daunting at the same time. We’ll just see what comes.”
Bates started her career as a fast bowler, but a knee injury at 17 changed her focus.
“For years my Dad had told me to bowl spin. Since then my career flew.”
