Fire and Rescue New South Wales has issued a warning about the dangers of home-made heaters.
It comes after fire fighters discovered one, made using a portable gas cooker with terracotta pots placed on top, while assisting paramedics on a job at Hawks Nest earlier this week.
Authorities say this type of device can start fires and potentially cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
