People living in the Hunter and parts of the Mid North Coast have been advised to secure their houses, with a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for this afternoon.
Large hailstones and damaging winds are expected to affect Taree, Newcastle, Scone, Cessnock, Gosford and Woy Woy.
The State Emergency Service says residents should move cars away from trees, unplug appliances and stay indoors.
