FEWER BUT LONGER FREIGHT TRAINS BETWEEN NARRABRI AND NEWCASTLE

There could soon be fewer – but longer – freight trains running through the Hunter.

The Australian Rail and Track Corporation will soon run a 1,350-metre grain train from Narrabri to the Port of Newcastle.

It’s aimed at diversifying trade.

“That brings a lot of economic and value to the farmers through lower costs. You only need one locomotive, one set of drivers, you can load a lot of grain on that train.”

The trial run is planned for next month.
