An extra 3,000 seats will be added to weekday train services between Hamilton, Gosford, Wyong and Sydney.
NSW Transport and Infrastructure Minister Andrew Constance said a number of selected services will be boosted from four to eight-carriages.
“This is great news for Central Coast and Newcastle customers, who will now have a more comfortable trip to and from Sydney,” Mr Constance said.
The government hopes the extra seats will improve comfort levels and reduce frustration for passengers.
Work is also underway to deliver a brand-new intercity train fleet for customers from 2019.
