TRAIN RACE WORLD FIRST AT STEAMFEST

The stage is set for a ‘steam showdown,’ to mark the 30th anniversary of Maitland Steamfest.

In what’s believed to be a world first, FOUR locomotives will go head-to-head in a race from Waratah to Maitland.

“We’ve had four trains run side-by-side in shunting yards, but never in a race style over the 25-30km, so it will draw crowds from everywhere.”

Organisers are also looking for extra volunteers, with 100,000 people expected over the two-day event in April.
