LES DARCY GLOVES ARRIVE HOME

A piece of history has made its way back to Maitland, with gloves belonging to legendary boxer Les Darcy now on display in his home town.

“He had a little gym at the back of his house on Lesleigh which is in East Maitland and there was also a vacant house in Williams Street that the lads used to train in that they called the ‘House of Stoush’ back then so it was probably here in Maitland those gloves were used for training,” said Cheryl Farrell from Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

The century-old gloves were purchased by the art gallery.

They join a growing Les Darcy collection, which also includes several personal items donated by his family.
