A three-year-old girl has undergone surgery on the far north coast, after apparently shooting herself in the leg with a BB gun.
Police say the toddler had found the unsecured replica air pistol at her Ballina home.
She was taken to Ballina District Hospital by a 39-year-old man, where the projectile was removed.
Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
