BUSHFIRE THREATENS SOUTH BALLINA

It was a nervous afternoon for South Ballina residents, as waterbombing aircraft and ground crews battled to bring a bushfire burning there under control.

10 trucks, supported by a plane and helicopter, were involved in the day-long firefighting effort.

Crews eventually got the upper hand around 2:30, with the blaze downgraded to advice level.
