Mystery surrounds the discovery of a body in a burnt-out ute at Lake Macquarie.
The grim find was made in remote bushland at Wakefield at around 10:30 this morning.
Police cordoned off Archery Road and established a crime scene.
Officers spent much of the day at the site as part of their investigation, which involved a number of forensic crews and detectives.
The body is yet to be identified.
