Part of a tyre from a racing car has jumped a safety fence and injured two spectators at the Newcastle Supercars event.
The incident happened just after 9am this morning in the qualifying of the V8 Ute series.
The tyre dislodged from Ryal Harris’ ute and bounced over the fence during a collision with Matt Griffin’s Holden, on the Nobbys Road part of the track.
Supercars has release a statement saying two spectators, one male and one female, were taken to a trackside medical centre with minor knee and ankle injuries.
Supercars says incidents of this nature are rare and the safety of competitors and spectators remains paramount.

To confirm, it was the ENTIRE tyre! If it hit a kid, that kid could’ve easily been killed or paralysed. Dangerous stuff being a spectator when you think about it.
