POLICE INVESTIGATING GOLD COAST APARTMENT FIRE

Four cars have been destroyed and a building extensively damaged, in a fire that police believe may have been deliberately lit on the Gold Coast.

Police responded to reports of an explosion and smoke issuing from the basement of an East Quay Drive apartment complex in Biggera Waters just before 4:30am.

On arrival, fire crews found four cars well-engulfed in the building’s underground carpark.

The building was evacuated and the blaze extinguished, but the cars were destroyed and the building sustained extensive damage.

No one was injured, and police believe the fire may have been deliberately lit using an accelerant.
