SHOPPING CENTRE EVACUATED AFTER LOADING DOCK FIRE

A number of people were evacuated from a shopping centre in Belmont this morning, after a fire broke out in one of its loading docks.

Emergency services got the call just after 10am, and arrived at Singleton Street soon after.

It’s believed the blaze burned through a stack of cardboard boxes, and may have been sparked by a cardboard compressor machine.

The flames were extinguished within an hour, and staff have returned to work.
