The federal government has announced it’s suspending all direct passenger flights from India until May 15, as the nation struggles to contain a “tsunami” of coronavirus cases.
The prime minister said the suspension excludes two special repatriation flights to Darwin that will help support “vulnerable Australians.”
Mr Morrison described the unfolding outbreak in India as a “terrible humanitarian crisis,” calling the scenes “truly heartbreaking” and adding the nation is a “true friend of Australia.”
Mr Morrison said Australia needed to take “appropriate steps” to “deal with the risks.”
