A Byron Bay resident, aged in their 50s, is the latest covid casualty in the Northern New South Wales Health District.
The region recorded the one death, but a jump in cases – with 1219 new infections overnight.
There was a drop in hospitalisations with 40 people now in care.
Five of those are in ICU.
