NURSE TO REMAIN IN CUSTODY

A 46-year-old nurse, charged with the murder of two elderly women in a Ballina nursing home, will remain in custody, until she faces court in Lismore in August.

Megan Haines represented herself in a Sydney court today, where police prosecutor Vanessa Robichaux referred to her having a dislike and intolerance for the elderly, despite working in the aged care industry.

The woman was arrested at a property in Victoria on Monday and was extradited to Sydney where she was charged with two counts of murder and one of common assault.

It follows the suspicious deaths of Marie Darragh, 82, and Isobella Spencer 77, who died at the St Andrew’s Village home in May.

A third elderly woman at the home was attacked on the same night but survived.
