Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting is through to the round of 16 at the US Open of Surfing.
Paddling out on one-to-three foot waves at Huntington Beach in California, Banting only just scraped through.
“That last one was a heaven sent wave, came in with like 20 seconds to go and a double up pushed me straight to shore.”
He finished with a final score of 11.67 to defeat American, Kanoa Igarash by .5.
