LIFEGUARD RECOGNISED WITH PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

A Ballina lifeguard has been recognised with a prestigious award after rescuing two young girls last month at Angels Beach.

Saul Duran has received the New South Wales Rescue of the Month award, after swimming 800-metres in difficult conditions to rescue a 13 and 14-year-old girl.

“That swim back, just the distance with the tube is probably the most physically exhausting rescue you will have to do.”

The girls were swimming at an unpatrolled beach, and he says they’re extremely lucky to be alive.
