SURF REPORT: OCTOBER 7, 2016

Hi there and thanks for clicking on the Burton Toyota weekly surf report.

It’s Lobby here, filling in for gav who’s still recovering from his Mt Kilimanjaro paraglider flight but will be back with you next week.

There was a whale drama off North Stradbroke Island this morning when a humpback became stranded in shallow water. It’s calf was trying to push it to safety.

Thankfully it managed to free itself and make it to deeper water.

There’s been some really nice waves rolling in along the Central coast, the Hunter and mid north coast beaches today. These pictures just in from cameraman Paul Collins at Merewether beach.

We’ve been enjoying a solid 3 feet of Southerly swell rising to four feet on the sets. Combined with the offshore winds and sunshine, it’s a cracker of a day at your local break.

It’s a little smaller on the north coast in the 2 ft range. The goldy is even smaller in the 1 foot range. The north coast and the goldy have Seabreezes this afternoon forcing you to seek some northern protection.

Make the most of it today and tomorrow. A southerly wind change is on the way to spoil the party. It’ll arrive through the central coast and hunter late morning on Saturday. The change will reach the north coast and the Gold Coast on Sunday.

Swell in the coming days will stick in the 2 to 3 foot range along much of the coast, a bit smaller in the far north.

Water is 19 degrees on the gold coast grading to 17 for Newcastle and the central coast.

Enjoy the surf and thanks for watching.
