SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR A MAN SWEPT INTO THE OCEAN AT NOBBYS

Police, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Volunteer Marine Rescue, and Surf Life Savers are currently searching for a man who was swept into the ocean in Newcastle yesterday.

Around 7pm last night, two 23-year-old men were on a rock-face near Nobbys Beach when a wave knocked the pair into the water.

Bystanders assisted one of the men to safety, but the second man could not be found.

A search was initiated, but hazardous conditions forced the search to be suspended at about 9.40pm.

The man was last seen wearing a navy blue t-shirt and black jeans.
