TWO BODIES FOUND IN MACLEAY RIVER CAR SEARCH

UPDATE 4:50PM: Police have just confirmed two bodies have been removed from a vehicle submerged in the Macleay River – the bodies of an adult male and an adult female.

We’ll have the latest details tonight at 6pm.

EARLIER: Police are focusing on a four-metre section of the Macleay River, where they believe the car is submerged.

Crews are awaiting police divers to arrive from Sydney, with officers describing the conditions as murky.

It’s still unknown whether any persons were in the vehicle.

A rescue operation is underway on the NSW Mid North Coast, after a car plunged into the Macleay River this morning.

Police have been told the vehicle was travelling on Croads Esplanade, Smithtown, when it left the road and ended up in the water shortly after 11am.

It’s unknown how many people were in the vehicle.
