An elderly man has died, after the car he was travelling in left the road and hit a tree near Inverell in the state’s north west.
Emergency services were called to the Gwydir Highway at around 11 o’clock on Saturday morning, after reports a Ford Falcon had crashed.
The driver of the station wagon, a 71-year-old man died at the scene.
New England Police are now working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
