NAIDOC celebrations were on show in Gosford today.
The Central Coast Local Health District put on a community fun day with thousands enjoying traditional dance, and pedal-powered smoothie blenders.
The aim: getting out messages about a healthy lifestyle and offering free check ups for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander attendees.
Research indicates Indigenous Australians are dying around a decade earlier than non-Indigenous people.
“We know the gap’s still got a fair way to close, this is an opportunity for us to get early diagnosis for all of our patients; to try and look at what conditions they have and how we can support them through that,” said District Aboriginal Health Manager, Steve Ella.
