Crowds gathered on the sand at Kingscliff Beach this morning to watch two green sea turtles released back into the wild.
Last year, Whistler and Jay Jay washed-up on separate beaches suffering injuries, Australian Seabird Rescue volunteers helping the pair return to full health.
The General Manager of Australian Seabird Rescue, Olly Pitt, says it’s been a busy summer for the not-for-profit.
“We actually have another eighteen sea turtles in care,” Pitt said.
The hope is they will head towards the Cook Islands where there is a strong and healthy turtle population.
