KURRI MAN ARRESTED OVER WEAPONS, ASSAULT OFFENCES

A Hunter man, wanted over three outstanding warrants, was arrested at Kurri Kurri yesterday afternoon.

Police spoke to the resident of a home on Edward Street just after 4 o’clock, when they noticed a man run away.

Police followed on foot and arrested the 25-year-old.

It’s alleged during the arrest the man became violent, and assaulted a senior constable, leaving him with an injured knee.

The 25-year-old also received minor injuries.

He was taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard before he was taken to Cessnock Police Station.

He’s facing a number of charges including three outstanding warrants relating to firearms, assault and traffic offences.

He was refused bail, to appear at Newcastle Bail Court today.
