Maitland overcame Southern Beaches and Hamilton beat University.
The two sides seemed evenly matched, with the Hawks opening the scoring after 20 minutes through debutant Sireli Bainivalu.
Hamilton pushed out to a handy lead when Lewie Catt showed some fancy footwork.
A try before the break made the score more respectable for the students.
