With the world’s eyes on football – the A-League Women are looking to take full advantage. While the Jets men break for the World Cup, the women will kick off their season… and are determined to do it on the right foot.

The Jets will be led by club stalwart Cassidy Davis this season – she’s played every match for Newcastle since her debut in 2013. The 28-year-old believes her side has the troops to finally return to the finals.

The A-League men’s competition now enters a month-long World Cup hiatus, but the Jets aren’t likely to enjoy the break. Arthur Papas says his squad will endure a brutal month, following last night’s loss to City.

The Jets kick off their A League Women’s campaign next Saturday in Brisbane, looking to make the finals for the first time in four years. And it’s a new look squad…. built on some existing relationships.

10 days out from the A-League women’s season, some familiar faces are relishing their return home to the Jets. The squad is working on rebuilding connections and forming new ones – with the ultimate aim of making the finals.

Jets co-captain Brandon O’Neill has been booked in three of their four matches so far this A-League season. The midfielder’s hoping to end that trend on Saturday against Melbourne City… AND the club’s run of losses.

There are plenty of inspiring stories among the Jets’ women’s squad… but none more so than Sophie Stapleford. Once told she would never play football again, after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour, she’s now in line to make her A-League debut at the age of 28.
