Heading to high school can be a daunting experience, but for a set of triplets at Elermore Vale Public School, the journey will be made a little easier. They’ve been by each other’s side since kindergarten, and we caught up with them as they embark on the next chapter of their education.

A neglected creek that leads to Lake Macquarie is being restored by a group of young environmentalists. Glendale East Public School students have taken on The task of cleaning up a creek that runs through their playground –  in hopes of making it an outdoor classroom.

What started as a way to save money at Hillsborough Public School, has turned into an entire school approach to environmental education. The school purchased water tanks to help cut costs, but that’s just one of many conservation projects run at the school.

The choir at Dungog Public School needs more than just good pitch and harmony to deliver a perfect performance – it needs to remember the song in sign language. The Signing Choir is part of a whole school program that teaches students to communicate with sign.

While most students take part in the more traditional school sports – one student at Singleton Heights Public School is galloping ahead in a more uncommon activity Aidan Sargent represents the school in horse sports and has already won an impressive haul of silverware.

The students from St Kevin’s are getting out in the community to fix up a run down park near their school. They hope to make it a more family friendly place – and will take their recommendations to Lake Macquarie Council.

They were identified as having the best school community in the region, beating all other catholic schools in Newcastle and Maitland to take out the Monsignor Frank Coolahan award for 2011. Now the students of St James Primary Kotara South have been on a mission to find out what made them worthy of the prestigious…

For many young artists at St Joseph’s Primary School it is the first time they’ll have their works on public display – and it is all for a good cause. The school teamed up with John Hunter Hospital, to help brighten the corridors of the childrens ward.
