Group 4 rugby league has taken its first steps towards launching a modified format of the game called ‘Footie Fours,’ The idea stems from one of the world’s leading competitions, and sees teammates taking on each other.  

Both Tamworth FC and Oxley Vale Attunga have breezed through the first six rounds of the premier league season to remain undefeated. Tomorrow the two powerhouse clubs collide, with both coaches hoping the weather smiles on them.  

It’s been a while between laps, but racing returns this weekend when the Tamworth Sporting Car Club hosts round two of the tri-series. COVID restrictions have meant there are fewer entries this year, but drivers are coming from Kempsey and Newcastle to take part.  

North west rugby union clubs have been enlisted to help smash the stigma surrounding mental health, as part of the Get Talkin’ tour. Members are trained up as ambassadors, to get the conversation started.  

The Inverell Saints are hoping to turn their fortunes around after a 10 point loss to the New England Nomads on the weekend. They host the Roos on Saturday in a match that’s had plenty of feeling over the past few seasons.

A unique sport is making a comeback for the first time since the pandemic hit. Mixing both equestrian and ball skills – the Australian Horseball Association will hold a “Start Up Day” in Tamworth this weekend.

Tamworth will welcome back the New Zealand Warriors at the end of the month, with rugby league returning to Scully Park. The Warriors will play the Knights in round 16, as they look to repay the city.  

It’s been a successful weekend for the Tamworth Swans, with the men’s team defeating their cross-town rivals. Meanwhile the Swans women’s side downed Inverell, as they turned the tables on the team from the ‘Sapphire City’.  

The Tamworth Magpies have again come away with maximum points in round three of New England Rugby. Saturday’s 72-point victory over Glen Innes was the Magpies third bonus point win, which sees them lead the competition.
