The Tamworth Roosters have come away from today’s memorial day with one win and a loss. The under-14s and under-17s took the field to pay tribute to Jacob Vallender, who suddenly passed away from a heart-attack in December.  

The Kangaroos and Swans will go head-to-head tomorrow, revisiting one of North West AFL’s great rivalries. The two Tamworth sides are desperately chasing competition points.  

The Tamworth Magpies are off to an unbeaten start to the New England Rugby competition. However the coach is still demanding improvement.

Quirindi’s football team is looking for redemption following a devastating 6-nil loss to the Attunga last weekend. The Dark Blues will line up against Gunnedah, this Saturday, in round 6 of the Northern Inland Premier League.

A prestigious mountain biking competition in Armidale has been postponed. The World 24-hour Endurance Championships was due to be held in November, but organisers say it’s simply too risky.

Several former Tamworth Kangaroos players came out of retirement to honour, Zeb Taylor, who recently died in a motorcycle accident. However the Gunnedah Bulldogs proved too strong, defeating the Roos.  

Tamworth FC remains undefeated in the Premier League, after defeating the Kootingal Kougars 5-2 on the weekend. Hayden Davidson was a standout, scoring three goals, though the Kougars put up a courageous fight.  

It’s safe to say rugby union in the North West and New England has a bright future. Last night signalling the start of the youth competition – featuring 46 teams – all gifted with talent.
