The pandemic has meant Tamworth’s brand new cycling facility has been left sitting idle. But that’s soon set to change, with the Tamworth Cycle Club planning its racing return.  

With many winter sports competitions axed due to the pandemic, North west AFL is hoping to capitalise. The Tamworth Roosters have been busy recruiting newcomers, making the pandemic work in their favour.  

Securing the Women’s World Cup hosting rights has brought euphoria to the shores of Australia to New Zealand. Now Wests Entertainment Group is hoping to bring that excitement to Tamworth, as they begin talks with Football Federation Australia.  

Tamworth FC has shown it’s not afraid of change in recent years. But 2020 has thrown plenty of curves at the Northern Inland Premier League – and one week out, it remains to be seen which clubs will take them in their stride.  

Basketball New South Wales has cancelled this year’s Waratah 2 competition, with many associations unable to fulfill match-day requirements. It’s left the men’s and women’s Tamworth Thunderbolts without a state league season.

After bowing out of last year’s competition in the preliminary final, North Companions are determined to improve this season. Their campaign starts in around a fortnight, when the Northern Inland Premier League gets underway.  

The Tamworth Baseball Association is just two weeks away from playing its first round of it’s revised season. And the all-women’s team, the Pandas, are already counting-down the days.  

Central North Junior Rugby Union will be back in full swing by the end of next month. For players who are just starting out, the association runs a Sunday gala day competition, with the Tamworth Tri-Colours just one of the various club  

The North West Regional Youth Rugby competition has seen an exponential increase in players since it started two years ago. Organisers hope to see a further increase, with this season’s Friday night competition weeks away from round 1.  

St Albert Rugby Club will field a first grade side in this year’s New England competition, after months of uncertainty. The Glen Innes Elks and Walcha Rams have also signed on, with the season to begin on July 25.
