The countdown is on for the AFL North West Grand Final… as ladder leaders the Tamworth Swans prepare to take on the New England Nomads. The clash will be staged at Tamworth, and both sides aren’t resting on their laurels when it comes to their opponent.

The stands were packed at the AELEC for the main sporting attraction at the Tamworth Show. Athletes traveled from across Australia and around the world, to compete in the evening’s rodeo events.

The Dungowan Cowboys put the pressure on minor premiers, the North Tamworth bears at the weekend, to secure a place in the grand final. Winning by just 4 points, successful conversions helped the Cowboys make it through to the big match.

The Gunnedah Devils have made it through to the Central North Rugby Union grand final, in two weeks time. Beating the Narrabri Blue Boars, they held the opposition scoreless the entire match.

The North West AFL grand final prelim proved to be a nail biter this weekend. Underdogs, the New England nomads, have managed another upset, this time against the Inverell Saints, to qualify for the Grand Final.

It’s a three-day event showcasing excellence in agriculture – but today campdrafting took the spotlight, at the 150th annual Tamworth Show. The AELEC hosted the events and despite the rain, there was no shortage of keen competitors.

They wrapped up the regular season with a nailbiter – and things will only heat up this weekend when Gunnedah and Narrabri face off again in finals rugby. The Blue Boars seek to keep up their winning ways to secure the Central North grand final’s hosting rights.

The North West Athletics carnival has returned after an extended covid hiatus. The zone qualifier in Tamworth brought in rising track stars, and parents from all across the region – seeking a spot at the schools state championships.

The North West A-F-L season is heating up, with preliminary finals kicking off this weekend. The Inverell Saints and New England Nomads will face off in an elimination round.

Captain Conrad Starr is a stalwart of the Tamworth Pirates. And the forward has celebrated his 200th game for the club in style – leading the team to victory in their elimination final aginst Inverell.
