Tamworth cyclist Luke Deasey’s career is going from strength to strength. The 16-year-old is gearing up to race in his first international cycling tour, but first – he’ll look to test himself at the Junior Country Championships.

It’s a sport of the 90s that’s quickly making a comeback on the track. This weekend Tamworth Kart Racing Club is throwing open its doors to rev heads of all ages and experience.

For the second time this season, the Moree Bulls have defeated the Tamworth Pirates in Central North Rugby. Penalty goals the telling difference for the Bulls, as they held-off a Pirates comeback.  

It was one of the Tamworth Thunderbolts most polished performances all season, beating the Hills Hornets on the weekend in a top of the table clash. The Bolts now lead the competition, after a 24-point win.  

The Inverell Saints thrashed the Tamworth Swans this weekend in North West AFL. While the Gunnedah Bulldogs beat the Nomads. The Tamworth Kangaroos produced an impressive win over the Moree Suns. In Group 4 rugby league, the Roosters defeated the Cowboys, while Boggabri got the better of the Blues. Meanwhile North Tamworth kept their unbeaten season going, with a 26-point win over Werris Creek.  

It won’t be quite the fairytale finish for Quirindi’s Sam Carter, after the ACT Brumbies went down this morning in their Super Rugby semi-final to the Jaguares. It’s one of the most unique equestrian events in the country, with the fact it’s open to both primary and secondary students. Starting in Tamworth yesterday was the Inter-Schools Horse Extravaganza – now in its sixth year.  

For the last decade, the North West Schools Oztag Championships has been promoting participation within the region. Tamworth Junior Oztag reaping the benefits, as interest continues to grow.  

Their ambition is to finish the regular season in the top two of the Central North Rugby competition. But to do that, the Tamworth Pirates will need to overcome a challenging month of rugby ahead.
