More than 100 students and staff from The Armidale School have signed up for a sea change this weekend. They’re heading to the coast for this year’s two-kilometre Ocean Swim in Coffs Harbour.

It was a pre-season tournament as much about paying tribute, as it was fundraising. The 11th annual Johnson Cup, saw Oxley Vale Attunga win the carnival 1-0.

It may be a unique sport, but the New England Roller Derby League is gathering momentum. Their recruitment drive continues on Tuesday night – the league hosting an information evening.  

The Tamworth Water Polo season wrapped up yesterday, with both the men’s and women’s grand finals producing high scoring affairs. The women’s decider won by Tamworth High School, while Eco Energy claimed the men’s.  

Fresh from the offseason and there’s still work to do – but rugby is back for the year. Yesterday’s opening round of New England Rugby Union, saw the Tamworth Magpies come from behind, to start the season on a high.

The Greater Northern Tigers will have to overcome the undefeated Western Rams tomorrow, if they’re any chance of progressing to the final of the Andrew Johns Cup. The semi-finals of the Country Championships sees the Tigers under-16 team travel to Forster, where they’ll enter the match as underdogs. (AUDIO IN PARTS)  

The Australian University Sevens series doesn’t officially kick-off until August, though the U-N-E Lions have already got the ball rolling for the season ahead. Recently appointing a new head coach – former Lions player and rugby international – Inge Visser.  

A massive day ahead for the Tamworth Water Polo Association, tomorrow, with the club’s grand finals being played at Scully Park Pool. The first match getting underway at 10am, with the C-grade schoolgirls decider. The women’s A-grade grand final starts at 2pm, followed by the men’s open competition at 3pm. Despite performing well throughout 2018, the Tamworth Magpies didn’t finish in the best position.. On the eve of the New England Rugby Union season, the Magpies say this year will be different.  

It’s a reflection of the quality of play in the Tamworth Veterans Cricket competition. A convoy of players are heading to the Redlands in Queensland, to represent New South Wales in a two-day match.
