It’s a two-day Skill Acquisition Program that brings together some of footballs top up-and-comers. This weekend it’s the Northern Inland Football zone playing host in Armidale – with just over 250 players taking part.  

Since its inception in the 1980s, the Armidale Blues pre-season tournament has developed a sizeable following. Held at Moran Oval, today’s carnival saw 19 sides take part, competing across men’s, women’s and under-18s.  

For coaches, tomorrow’s pre-season Rugby Knockout Carnival will serve as a benchmark ahead of the upcoming season. There’s always the cash incentives too, as the Armidale Blues host the annual tournament at Moran Oval.  

They’ve recruited through all forms of social media, as well as in person at various AFL come and try days. Now the hard work’s paying off for the Tamworth Swans – as they head into a new era in 2019 with the club’s first women’s team.
