Tamworth Hockey Association is gearing up for the long weekend, with hundreds of competitors taking part in a state-wide competition. It’s the first time the Hockey New South Wales event has been held in the region.

It was a battle of the fittest in North West AFL yesterday, as the Swans and Saints went head-to-head in the Kevin Pay Shield. The Saints have held onto the esteemed trophy since the competition’s inception – and, this year was no different.

The state’s best lawn bowlers showed off their skills at the South Tamworth Lawn Bowls club… Battling it out on the green for the New South Wales championship.

The Inverell Highlanders are hoping to cement their spot in Central North rugby’s top four. While they may be facing cellar dwellars Scone, they aren’t forgetting their defeat to them last year.

It will be a top of the table clash this weekend- as the Inverell Saints fight to hold on the Kevin Pay shield for a third year. But the Swans will be proving a real threat this year – Tamworth yet to take the shield home, since the tradition began in 2020.

The Open Derby is underway at the NCHA Cutting Futurity in Tamworth… as the two-week long event ramps up. It’s drawn talent from around Australia… and a legend or two as well.

The Tamworth Gymnastics Club will host its annual the Country Capital Cup over the long weekend – expected to draw in 3,000 visitors. Local competitors are in fine form, after representing New South Wales at the Australian Championships.

Tamworth is playing host to hundreds of primary school students this week competing at both basketball and hockey state championships. It’s the first time in history, the city has hosted both events at the same time.
