Athletes will be put through their paces this weekend, when the Tamworth Triathlon Club hosts its end-of-year race. The event is Christmas-themed and the best-dressed competitors could win themselves a prize.

The Tamworth Olympic Swimming Pool officially reopened today, after water restrictions were loosened. It couldn’t have come at a better time, especially for the Tamworth City Swimming Club.

The Tamworth Jockey Club has been forced to cancel or transfer race meetings this year, due to the unsafe condition of the track following rain. The surface is now undergoing a much-needed upgrade, with racing to resume in January.

Tamworth Blue has suffered a 34 run loss in today’s under-13 representative cricket final against Maitland. Meanwhile in the under-15s decider, Maitland beat Narrabri by 223 runs.

Since the Tamworth Regional Cycling Centre was built, the facility hasn’t held any major race carnivals. Today that opportunity came, hosting the junior State Sprint Championships.

The recent Group 4 nines competition has proven a bonanza for the Kootingal Roosters. It’s sparked a real hunger for a new season of rugby league, with players flooding back to training.  

The Narrabri Blue Boars have landed a major sporting coup for the region, by securing a pre-season Super Rugby match in February. It’s come through sheer persistence, as the club now begins preparations for a Festival of Rugby.  

This weekend’s Tamworth Track Open will see riders from as young as nine take part in two action-packed days of cycling. And the John Cooper Golden Mile will return for the first time in almost two decades.
