Tamworth will become the first regional area in New South Wales to host the Blind Games when they come to the city next month. It’ll feature many different sports, including tennis, golf and cricket.

The Waratahs have claimed back-to-back A-grade Tamworth hockey titles, after defeating the Flames yesterday in a grand final replay. Meanwhile, South United got home over Kiwi Diggers in the men’s decider.

The Gunnedah Bulldogs have gone through the North West AFL season undefeated, beating the Moree Suns to officially secure the minor premiership. Elsewhere, the Nomads defeated the Saints, while the Swans beat their crosstown rivals.

The Tamworth Magpies have fallen one game short of qualifying for the New England Rugby decider for a second year. Yesterday they lost to competition newcomers the Harbour Knights, who produced a gutsy second-half come-back.

Group 4 rugby league is another step closer to kicking-off its inaugural nines competition, with the four franchise teams selected last night. The process was undertaken through a draft system, with the respective captains delighted with their squads.

A 25-point loss to Walcha in last weekend’s major semi-final, has forced the Tamworth Magpies down the do-or-die path. They’ll meet the Harbour Knights in tomorrow’s New England Rugby preliminary final, after they beat St Alberts College.

This weekend was meant to mark the 44th anniversary of the Northern Zone Carnival for the Tamworth Clay Target Club. That’s all changed due to coronavirus, with the club now running a scaled back competition.

Tamworth Freestyle Bouldering Gym will hit the walls on Friday night, for its finals series. It’s the first time a youth division has been included in the competition, with school students joining the sport in droves.

Group 4 Rugby League is calling for more registrations ahead of the launch of its inaugural 9’s competition. While nominations have been promising, they’re yet to convert to official registrations.
