THE BIGGEST LINE DANCING TURNOUT IN 20 YEARS
It may be 20 years since first line dancing festival took place in Tamworth but it’s the biggest turnout its had yet with over 800 people through the doors each day. Over the course of the weekend, 547 dancers will take to the stage to compete in the Australasian championships.

University of New England students marked the end of their academic journey today… graduating at Armidale. Thousands are expected to attend the campus this weekend, as face to face ceremonies finally return.

ORGANISATIONS THANKED BY STATE GOV FOR THEIR WORK DURING COVID
Two North West organisations have been rewarded for their hard work in helping vulnerable people during COVID lockdown periods. Gunnedah’s Meals on Wheels and Oxley Community Transport today received more 10,000 dollars from the state government. The funding is part of the Government’s $300-thousand COVID Regional Support program.

HISTORY PREVAILS AT HERITAGE AWARDS
Tamworth historians were acknowledged at today’s Biennial Heritage Awards at the Pavillion Function Centre, for preserving the town’s history. Seven people were recognised, including Bendemer Hotel publican, Leanne Summers. She took away the award for heritage tourism… following her work on the 1864 historical building. Leanne says she will use her prizze money from council…

GUNNEDAH TAFE UPGRADE AIMS TO COMBAT NURSE SHORTAGES
Gunnedah’s Tafe Campus has received a major upgrade to help aspiring nurses studying for their diploma. More than 230,000 dollars from the State Government will allow them to gain practical the experience necessary to join the work force.

POTENTIAL INDUSTRIAL WATER PURIFICATION FACILITY FOR TAMWORTH
Tamworth Council has high hopes to build an industrial water purification facility… Agreeing to allocate 1.7-million dollars to fund the early phase of the project… But Mayor Russell Webb says he’s estimating it will cost 75-million dollars and is seeking State Government funding. Council says the project will take two years to develop.

FARMERS REAPING BENEFITS OF GLOBAL OIL SHORTAGES
With global oil seed shortages, an increased demand for bio-oil in the US, and now, the Indonesian Government halting its exports of palm oil… Local farmers say they will soon reap the benefits of the increase in export prices for canola.
