Hamilton has been crowned 2019 premiers, defeating Wanderers 36 – 7 in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Grand Final at Number 2 Sportsground. The Hawks dominated from the opening whistle, hardly giving the Wanderers a look in, the two blues only points coming against the run of play.

Wanderers progress into the NHRU grand final against Hamilton after defeating Maitland 50-28 over the weekend. Maitland were on the back foot early in the first half when 2 players were sent to the sin-bin and couldn’t bridge the gap despite a strong fightback. Wanderers centre Chase Hicks ran in 3 tries.

Merewether Carlton bowed out of this year’s competition succumbing to a strong Maitland Blacks outfit, with the final score 25-17. Maitland will now take on the Two Blues this weekend with the winner meeting Hamilton Hawks in the grand final.

Round 16 of Newcastle & Hunter Rugby saw Wanderers take home the Brad Nichols Cup, racking up a century in their win over University. In other games, Merewether were too good for Singleton and Maitland accounted for Southern Beaches. Hamilton continued its winning form against Lake Macquarie.
