Maurice Goolagong is rapidly closing in on one of the greatest milestones in AFL. The Terrigal Avoca full-forward kicked eight goals last weekend, and needs just 15 more to be the first player in the history of the Black Diamond competition to reach 1,000.

Terrigal-Avoca have gone down to reigning champions Newcastle City in round two of the Black Diamond Cup. The Panthers were heading for an upset win in the first quarter, before suffering a 20-point loss to the Novocastrians.

BOMBERS TO FACE BULLDOGS IN BLACK DIAMOND OPENER
Killarney Vale Bombers will start their Black Diamond AFL season with a clash against the Warners Bay Bulldogs tomorrow. The side will be coached by 2007 Premiership winner Michael Clarke. Meanwhile, former player Nathan Elsworthy has received an umpiring scholarship with the AIS.
