Football Far North Coast’s Anzac Cup competition is just two weeks away from kick off. A record number of teams will take part this year, with Goonellabah FC hoping to defend its men’s premier league title.

2021 will be a year of change for South Lismore FC – the club hoping to establish a womens side having already appointed a new head coach. Rick Austen will take on the role – bringing with him coaching experience from Southern Cross University’s Liverpool Academy.

Former Goonellabah footballer Kaiden Powell has again been selected to play in the Australian indigenous team. The 31-year-old will be taking on a mentoring role within the squad, which will compete in Queensland early next year.

Football Far North Coast is calling for greater investment in the sport over the next decade as participation numbers continue to climb. General Manager, Steve Mackney, says he anticipates women in particular to join up ahead the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Lennox Head Football Club has been crowned champions of the women’s premier league after claiming a 2-1 victory over Alstonville last night.
