    OLIVER MORAN AWARDED JUNIOR BMX CYCLIST OF THE YEAR

    Forster’s Oliver Moran has received a major accolade, named Cycling Australia’s junior BMX cyclist of the year. It caps off a stellar 2019 for the 17-year-old, competed at the world championships in Belgium, finishing in second place. Moran is in training ahead of the Australian World Cup next month.     Forster swimmer Nash Wilkes says hard work has paid off, after being chosen to compete in the Olympic trials in Adelaide. The 18-year-old will train up to three times a day, in the lead-up to the biggest moment of his career.

    Forster’s Nash Wilkes has qualified for the Olympics trials next year. The 18-year-old swimmer will compete in the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke events. He’s just returned from the New South Wales Open Championships, where he won silver. (VISION ONLY)

    A Forster tennis player has been offered an international scholarship at Stetson University in Florida. Laia Pasini will be leaving the Great Lakes for the USA courts in just over a month.

    BUSHFIRE EMERGENCY FORCES CANCELLATION OF DRAGONBOAT REGATTA

    A local dragonboat regatta has been cancelled for this weekend due to safety reasons. The Great Lakes Pearl Dragons were set to hold their 8th annual competition in Forster on Saturday and Sunday. The team believes it is unsafe to run the event in the current bushfire crisis. (VISION ONLY)

    MOTORCYCLIST AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER COLLISION IN FORSTER

    A motorcyclist is in a serious but stable condition after colliding with another vehicle in Forster this morning. The 58-year-old man was treated on scene before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. He suffered minor injuries, including upper body pain and grazes to his legs. (VISION ONLY)

    We were warned hot, gusty conditions across the state would cause problems on Saturday, and as of late in the afternoon, close to 60 bushfires were burning across New South Wales.     A Tuncurry woman charged with animal cruelty offences is back behind bars tonight after allegedly breaching her bail. 73-year-old Brenda Marney was allegedly found with images of mutilated animals on her mobile phone in May this year. She was arrested again, after being accused of approaching birds at Pebbly Beach. Marney has been refused bail.…

    Firefighters say a blaze burning near Forster is being controlled. Authorities have taken advantage of the favourable conditions, back burning containment lines. The fire has already scorched around 2,000 hectares of Minimbah Nature Reserve, with the fire currently burning to the north of Coolongolook River.
