Following the weekend’s Wests Knock Out rugby league competition, the Group 4 representative team has been announced. Some familiar faces have been chosen, however a couple of star players didn’t make the cut this time around.  

All 19 Group Four rugby league clubs will blow the cobwebs out at Saturday’s annual pre-season knockout tournament in Tamworth. The draw has been finalised, with a second division powerhouse confirming it has enough players to field a side this season.

Group 4 has a lot of work to do before the Greater Northern Divisional Championships, after being beaten by 52 points in a trial match yesterday. Taking on 2015 Newcastle runners-up, Macquarie, the Bushrangers learned a thing or two about the value of fitness.

In a bid to get the edge for this year’s Greater Northern rugby league championships, Group 4 will tackle Newcastle’s runners-up from last season in a trial tomorrow. The match, to be played in Tamworth, is the first chance for players to impress coaches.

Group 4 Rugby League has announced a representative squad of more than 40 players, ahead of the 20-16 season. The boys will take part in a series of training sessions, and compete in a trial match against the Macquarie Scorpions, before the final cut is made.  

A two tier system has been finalised for Group 4’s second division. 13 teams will be split, with the hope of producing more competitive games.  

The Armidale Rams are on the hunt for their first rugby league premiership in more than a decade, after quitting the Group 19 competition. The Rams will join Group 4 next year and have begun recruiting star players and a new coach.  

The Group 4 rugby league season has wrapped up for another year, and the competition is already looking at changes for 2016. Attracting a sixth team to first grade and introducing another division are two of the options being considered.  

Inverell has claimed its third straight Group 19 premiership against Moree yesterday. The game went down to the wire, with the Boomerangs falling at the final hurdle. While in Group Four, North Tamworth have made it back to back premierships, with a convincing win over the West Tamworth Lions. The Bears won by 21 points…
