The Manning Hockey Association is busy preparing for when the season resumes next month. All teams are confirmed to return and they’re back in training, under strict guidelines.

The hockey season is about to start in the Manning Valley, a little earlier than usual. There’s still time to register for the 20-round competition, and Taree will host the women’s state championships in July.  

Two Taree hockey players will train with Australian coaches, after strong performances at the National Indoor Hockey Championships last month. Eamon Smith and Lara Watts have been selected to represent their country in the under 18s squads.  

Manning Valley hockey players have been treated to an early start this year – the season now kicking off at the end of March, due to April’s public holidays. A young Manning Valley hockey player has returned from Borneo, the under 21s Australian side winning four of its seven games. Priya Bourke becoming very attached to her green and gold uniform – keen for opportunities to wear it again.

Taree High School has yet another trophy to put up on the wall, thanks to the open girls hockey team. The girls have been crowned state champions for the third year in a row at the Combined High Schools tournament.  

Taree’s Priya Bourke is on her way to Borneo, to play for Australia. The teenager was selected for the under 21 women’s side.  

Taree High students are proving they’re at the top of their game in hockey. Three boys have just returned from the CHS titles with gold, while six girls are heading to Sydney, hoping to be part of a fifth straight title.  

Taree High’s Abby Watts is proving she has what it takes out on the hockey field. The 13-year-old stepping up to represent New South Wales at the All Schools Championships in August.
