Southern Beaches has edged out Lake Macquarie to claim bragging rights in local union this afternoon. Waratah snuck past Maitland, while there were comfortable wins for Hamilton, Merewether and the Wanderers.

The Wanderers have claimed a huge win in round two of the local rugby, finishing 61 point winners. The greens edged out Waratahs, Nelson Bay downed Beaches, Lake Macquarie snuck past the Students, while the Hawks and Maitland couldn’t be split. Defending premiers Hamilton have started their Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union season with a win. So too did Southern Beaches, and Lake Macquarie. The Students edged out Nelson Bay, while the Two Blues posted a win over their rivals.

Hamilton is once again NHRU Premiers edging out the Wanderers 37 points to 28 in Newcastle today. It was a thrilling match with the lead dramatically changing several times – but in the end the Hawkes put on a spectacular display, to soar to victory.

A boost for Wanderers ahead of Saturday’s NHRU grand final, with Ben Ham successfully challenging a suspension at the judiciary. Opponents, Hamilton, are at full strength, for what’s expected to be one of the closest deciders in years.

In Newcastle and Hunter Rugby, Wanderers beat the Waratahs in this afternoon’s minor semi final. The men in red hit the front early thanks to two Cameron Davies penalties.
